POSITION OVERVIEW 

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Vocational Instructor with preferably at least 10 years of welding or fitting experience or 5 years of experience as an instructor or production supervisor. The candidate will develop, coordinate, and conduct training programs for specific employees in craft positions in addition to serving as a technical expert in supporting production members, coordinating/developing welding procedures, addressing welding problems/production processes, etc.

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Minimum of 10 years of welding or fitting experience preferred or 5 years of experience as an instructor or production supervisor
  • CWI required

SKILLS 

  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of craft-specific processes and techniques
  • Works well with other craft supervisors
  • Exhibits high energy levels and maintains a good attitude
  • Familiar with standard marine practice and general specifications for construction
  • Capable of developing and coordinating the process for establishing new welding procedures
  • Has good basic knowledge of shipbuilding activities

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Serves as a technical expert and support for production members and management on facility welding procedures, processes, etc.
  • Assists with technical issues regarding welding requirements, performance, etc.
  • Coordinates and leads projects for various welding procedure development and associated processes
  • Reports project progress and issues to management
  • Assists in evaluating new technology for the facility regarding welding elements of production
  • Conducts research on various welding techniques and application in addressing welding problems, production processes, etc.
  • Participates on various external committees in addressing craft/technical needs within the industry, as needed
  • Confers with management to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training for employees to better understand changes in policies, procedures, regulations, and technologies
  • Formulates teaching outline and determines instructional methods, utilizing knowledge of specified training needs and effectiveness of such methods as individual or group training, lecture, demonstration, etc.
  • Selects or develops teaching aids, such as training handbooks, demonstration models, etc.
  • Conducts training sessions covering specified areas such as those concerned with new employee orientation, on-the-job training, apprenticeship programs, health and safety programs, refresher training, etc.
  • Test trainees, measures progress, and evaluates effectiveness of training
  • Supervises apprentices and trainees while in the training school
