POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dedicated Safety Representative with preferably at least 3 months of experience in the safety field. The candidate will inspect machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 3 months of experience in the safety field preferred
SKILLS
- Have a complete working knowledge of general safety practices, policies, and procedures
- A basic knowledge of computers and recordkeeping
- Good communication skills, including written and oral communication
- Works well with others
- Basic knowledge of safety techniques and first aid
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devices
- Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, i.e., hard hats, safety goggles, steel toe boots, etc. and make sure workers are in compliance with safety rules and procedures
- Inspects specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies
- Becomes a Shipyard Competent Person (SCP)
- Assists with the investigations of incidents to determine a cause and suggest prevention methods
- Conduct safety orientation to all new hires with respect to safety rules and procedures
- Assists with safety meetings and trainings
- Maintains training records
- Will learn and become familiar with the facility safety program
