Job Description: Working Lead (Rigging/Operator)
Basic Function: A Working Leaderman is responsible for directing his/her craft in the successful implementation of workstation activities related to shipbuilding and/or repair functions.
Minimum Experience (Years):
- Must be a competent person on rigging practices & signals to ensure safe loads.
- NCCCO or Southern Crane certifications preferred.
- At least seven (7) years of shipbuilding or five (5) years of continuous company experience in a similar position is preferred.
Minimum Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of operating crawler cranes- friction & hydraulics, cherry pickers, forklifts, barge cranes, gantry cranes, or any designated piece of equipment.
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of craft-specific processes and techniques.
- Well-organized supervisor with directly applicable experience in resource planning and scheduling.
- Works well with other craft supervisors.
- Exhibits high energy levels and maintains a good attitude.
- Ability to perform labor estimates and plan manning schedules preferred.
- Familiar with standard marine practices and general specifications for construction.
- Good basic knowledge of shipbuilding/repair activities.
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
- Responsible for the safe operation of crawler cranes (friction & hydraulics), cherry pickers, forklifts, barge cranes, gantry cranes, or any designated piece of equipment.
- Direct and coordinate related craft activities for the assigned workstation.
- Develop, review, and maintain construction plans, schedules, budgets, and other essential records.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and other technical guidance documentation.
- Ensure material and labor resources necessary to accomplish tasks are readily available.
- Maintain work schedules; work overtime as needed to minimize project delay.
- Meet with other members of production management to coordinate craft efforts.
- Optimize craft activities to produce a high-quality work product consistent with company standards.
- Train and motivate the workforce to achieve high levels of productivity.
- Address daily personnel, equipment, and facility issues; recommend viable solutions and remedial actions.
- Confer with other supervisors on hires, discharges, promotions, or transfers of personnel.
- Enforce all company policies, procedures, work practices, and safety standards.
- Ability to work in confined/enclosed spaces.
- Ability to work/climb at elevations greater than 5 feet.
- Ability to wear/work with a respirator when applicable.
- Follow all company policies and procedures, including those related to employee safety, environmental policy, and the principles of our quality system.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested by management.
- Work overtime as required.
- Report to work daily and on time.
