POSITION OVERVIEW 

We are seeking a dedicated Quality System Specialist with either 3 years of manufacturing experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or equivalent specialized education OR 10 years of shipyard manufacturing experience and a technical degree in a similar discipline with working knowledge of quality management systems. The candidate will support improving quality systems by applying strategic thinking and methodologies to develop improvement plans, execute them, and analyze outcomes to ensure statistically improved and sustained system and business results. This role involves monitoring welding processes, evaluating performance, and implementing initiatives to optimize production. The work spans across manufacturing and inspection environments while supporting the organization’s quality objectives.

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Either 3 years of manufacturing experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or equivalent specialized education OR 10 years of shipyard manufacturing experience and a technical degree in a similar discipline with working knowledge of quality management systems
  • Auditing experience in quality management systems in shipyard, manufacturing or similar setting preferred
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is preferred

SKILLS 

  • Strong knowledge in ASME, AWS, ABS, and/or related technical documents regarding welding practices/procedures
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with an ability to apply corrective and preventive measures to streamline processes
  • Knowledgeable of quality system concepts in accordance with established standards
  • Basic knowledge in non-destructive testing or other testing methods.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Serve as a key member of the Operations Support Quality Group, promoting quality policy, objectives, and system directives through training and mentoring, particularly in manufacturing areas throughout the Company
  • Promote and support improvement and preventive action processes, including problem-solving techniques such as root cause analysis, implementing action plans, and verifying solution effectiveness
  • Provide welding technology administration and support as needed.
  • Assist in monitoring welding processes, evaluates performance data, develops process improvement initiatives, and implements welding technology
  • Deliver training in quality concepts and weld processes
  • Coordinate and conduct internal audits to meet ISO 9001 requirements, perform program review to support Company initiatives, and support external audits as required
  • Assist with managing technical documents/controlled documents for the organization and perform technical writing to create or revise welding procedures and supporting documents
