Quality System Specialist

Basic Function:

Supports quality system improvements by utilizing strategic thinking and methodologies for plan improvements, executes the plans, and analyzes to ensure system and business results have been statistically improved and sustained, especially with regard to meeting customer expectations. Also develops policies, procedures and work instructions in regards to DFARS and other governmental regulations in complying with Business System requirements.  Overall, the position’s work is performed within the administrative, manufacturing, and inspection and test environments of the organization, while supporting quality improvement efforts.


  • Two (2) years of quality system or quality control experience in a manufacturing or a similar setting
  • Working experience using and interpreting Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)
  • Good communication skills, including written and oral communication
  • Advance knowledge of computer software, i.e., Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word documents
  • Associate’s degree in industrial technology or equivalent specialized education is desired
  • System auditing experience is desired
  • Ability to travel to various company facilities


  • Supports the integration of quality system principles and serves as a constituent of the Corporate Quality Group while promoting the organization’s quality policy, objectives, and other quality system directives, through training and mentoring, particularly in manufacturing functions. 
  • Promotes and supports the corrective and preventive action processes using problem solving techniques, including root cause analysis, action plan implementation, and confirmation of applied solutions.
  • Supports the development and revision of business system compliance documents while interpreting DFAR requirements, in conjunction with training and implementation of processes, including responses to SUPSHIP and DCAA audit findings and corrective actions.
  • Tracks progress of open IA’s (Improvement Actions) according to established due dates, through to effective closure.
  • Integrates process improvements through various means such as value stream mapping, process capability studies, lean manufacturing skills, and 5S methodology throughput production and non-production processes as assigned by the Director of Quality.
  • Serves as a project team leader when developing and executing improvement action plans, or serves as a team member as assigned by management.
  • Delivers presentations to management members as necessary regarding process improvements and project updates.
  • Supports the annual review of QMS operating procedures and work instructions to verify compliance with actual processes and initiates changes as necessary, and determines obsolescence when applicable.
  • Coordinates and performs internal auditing and solicits other Corporate Quality team members’ support, to meet the requirements of ISO 9001 and government business system requirements, in accordance with the internal audit schedule.
  • Supports the Corporate Quality Group in facilitating the risk assessment process as necessary for all facilities.
  • Performs technical writing to create or revise documents in support of the Corporate Quality Group for various internal documents and reports for system use.
