Lockport , LA., April 10, 2008 - Bollinger
Marine Fabricators, L.L.C., (BMF) Amelia, La., a Bollinger Shipyards, Inc.
company, has delivered the ENERGY 6508, double hull, oil tank barge built to
meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA’90), to Hornbeck
Offshore Transportation, L.L.C. The delivery of the ENERGY 6508 was preceded by
the delivery of the ENERGY 6506 and ENERGY 6507 earlier in 2007. Terms of the
contract were not disclosed.
Bollinger chairman and CEO
Donald "Boysie” Bollinger said, "I am pleased to announce our delivery of the
ENERGY 6508 to Hornbeck Offshore from our Bollinger Marine Fabricators (BMF)
facility. Our BMF team did a great job on the ENERGY 6508 and her earlier
sister ships. In signing a contract of this size following a locally
concentrated natural disaster, Bollinger worked hard to insure that these units
maintained the Bollinger seal of being the best in the industry.”
The 60,000 BBL capacity ENERGY 6508 measures 362’0” in length,
with a 60’0” beam and a 29’0” depth. The series of barges are OPA’90 compliant,
classed by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to the requirements of the Maltese
Cross A1, unmanned oceans, and manned special service. Each unit is certified
by the United States Coast Guard (USCG), under subchapter "D” and "O”, oceans,
for grade "A” and lower products. Each vessel has six (6) main cargo tank
pairs, "Guard Level” Ian Conrad Bergan cargo tank gauging and overfill
protection, vapor recovery, and a Brunvoll tunnel thruster for increased
maneuverability. Barges are outfitted with quarters and accommodations for four
(4) persons.
Carl Annessa, Hornbeck Offshore’s Executive Vice President and C.O.O.
commented, "We thank all of the men and women at Bollinger Shipyards for their
perseverance in completing this three barge serial construction program despite
the many business difficulties faced by the industry in the months following
hurricane Katrina. Hornbeck Offshore, its crews and its customers are very
pleased with the performance of the barges in service, and we are happy that
these unique double hull barges carry the Bollinger pedigree.”
